Digitise the Nation 2011

Digitise the Nation is an annual programme run by the Irish Internet Association to raise awareness of the opportunities the internet can create for the people of Ireland. The IIA set up this week long awareness programme to help build Ireland into one of world’s leading countries in online business. This year its running form the 9th – 13th May.

Digitise the Nation is an opportunity for everyone to bring their skills and capabilities to the very widest audience, showing everyone how the internet can be used to communicate with friends and family, transact business to business and business to consumer. Also how it can be used for education, self-development, career improvement, social interaction, fundraising and raising awareness and campaigns on local issues. This is a chance to show how the internet can make life easier, more fulfilling and more fun.

Event – Targeting Local Customers Online – 30th March

The IIA is hosting a half day course on ‘Targeting Local Customers Online’. This course will help participants develop a Local Search Campaign which will allow you to develop an integrated strategy to attract local searches and turn these searches into customers using map listings, pay per click advertising, search engine optimisation and social media.

This course takes place on  Wednesday 30th of March in The Digital Hub, Thomas St, Dublin at 9.30 -1.30

DCEB Network for Women -Using the internet to grow your business

It was very interesting to speak and meet the members of the DCEB network last night. Thank you Pauline and to the members for the opportunity. The range of businesses is very impressive with some fantastic opportunities to use the web. It is very interesting to hear so many businesses using a wide variety of activities to reach their customers.

Some interesting points were raised and some interesting questions were asked over the course of the evening.
– Research and get to know your target market VERY well. Prioritise them and be very focused 
– Ensure you build a web strategy that addresses the needs and behaviour of your target market. Relevance is key.
–  Follow through from your web marketing activity to your landing page – ensure that the message is carried through and that the call to action is clear and easy to follow.
– Ensure your campaigns are integrated. Use different activities to support each other and to cover your different market segments.
Joan Mulvill, CEO of the IAA highlighted the importance of usability and design. Making even the slightest change to the design or colour of an element of your website can have a significant impact on the behaviour of your visitors and subsequently your conversion rates.
