The Catholic Church have taken another step into the Internet age by launching a news information portal which combines all the Vatican media. According to The New York Times, this new social-media equipped portal, will at first display the Vatican news in English and Italian with other languages are to follow soon. Additionally, it will also live stream papal events, play audio feeds from Vatican Radio, and give access to texts of papal homilies, statements and speeches.
The Vatican have previously launched its own YouTube Channel, Facebook and iPhone apps in 2009 and even a blog last year to help promote the Church’s message. The advancements the Vatican are making in Social Media does not stop here, on Wednesday his Holiness used the Vatican’s news account to send his first tweet, which announced the launch of this news information portal and praised the ‘Lord Jesus Christ’. Not only that, but he even used an iPad to post the Tweet.
