How the world has changed in 10 years. While I myself, remember hearing about the 9/11 bombings while listening to the radio on a bus, it is more likely that you heard about the death of Osama Bin Laden on Facebook or Twitter. The medium which has helped spread the news and reactions of millions to the news of the worlds most feared terrorist was not even in existence when Al Qaeda masterminded the bombings of New York’s Twin Towers.
Facebook and Twitter were responsible for the initial spread of mass information relating to this topic before turning to traditional news sources. The whole incident was even reported live through Twitter by a Pakistani man walking in the hills above Abbottabad.
Mashable.com carried out a poll of 20,000 readers showed that the majority of people found out about the death of Osama bin Laden through Social Media. It is a clear demonstration that massive worldwide events are being broadcast louder by Facebook and Twitter than the more traditional types of Media.
So how was this news amplified to your life? Did you help spread the word or react to the worldwide discussion on Facebook or Twitter?
