The Social Media buzz about the Royal Wedding

The Royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton took place today with an estimated 2 billion people tuning in to catch the nuptials. Millions of these views took place over the internet through live feeds and records were broken for the highest amount of concurrent livestream viewers ever. But the hype does not stop here, the social networks are buzzing with talk of the newly weds, sharing news and uploading  reactions in real time. The top trends on Twitter all day has been #RoyalWedding, on Facebook Royal Wedding related keywords has reached millions over the last 24hours and 10 of the top 20 searches on Google in the U.S have been related to the Royal Wedding.

This wedding is the biggest one that social networks have ever encountered, considering when the Royal Wedding took place in 2005 Facebook was barely 1 year old and Twitter didn’t even exist. We can safely conclude that Will and Kate’s marriage is the first Royal Wedding of the social media era.
